I decided I was going to provide at least a tablesworth of terrain- ruined buildings etc. Unfortunately I got rather distracted by a few other projects and it was only a week before that I started construction! I plied knife and glue gun till the wee hours for a week, beating my chosen materials of foam core and coffee stirrers into surly submission relentlessly until at last the ruins of Frostgrave emerged from my workbench! And it looked a little like this:
I managed to put together 20 ruined buildings , a small pile of scatter terrain, rubble and walls etc. 3 rowing boats and a ship. Not bad for a weeks work eh? And of course the ship and boats will be handy for exploring the Ghost Archipelago!
Im particularly pleased with the ship- its a bit rough around the edges but given I didn't even intend to build it until about 36 hours before the 1st game I think it turned out ok! Like the rest of the terrain, its simply foam core covered in coffee stirrers and matchsticks. The mast is removable and held in place with a large washer and a couple of magnets. And yes, the little rowing boats are Lego...lined with yet more coffee stirrers.
We played three games, the first three from the Thaw of the Lichlord. My first game against David went very well with my Invulnerable knight cornering his wizard and beating him to death, whilst everyone else tore his warband to bits. I got a bit pile a treasure, and a magic sword for my Knight, and David got a large amount of rolls on the injuries table and the funeral bill for his apprentice.
Game 2 against Geoff was fought across the icy river with the ship at the centre went less well. I ended up with a decent amount of treasure but with little experience and almost my entire band down and out by the end. Only one fatality thankfully, who was replaced with a bagpipe player!
And we finished off with a 3 way ambush of a cartful of treasure, guarded by four suspicious looking buggers in cowls. Despite 9 treasure tokens on the board I managed to avoid taking home any at all! My gang took a bit of a beating- despite laying down a fair bit of firepower my wizards just couldn't do enough damage- they managed to bag an apprentice but dozens of other targets were hit but escaped unscathed- and they were generally to many or to tough for my motley collection of musicians and thugs to go toe to toe with. As a result Chris and Daffyd took home 4 and 5 respectively, and I was down 20gc thanks to niggling injuries!
Trying out Ghost Archipelago on Thursday, but heres some more pics from today:
